HC Deb 03 December 1984 vol 69 cc32-3W
Mr. Gerald Bowden

asked the Secretary of State for Transport whether plans exist to protect reinforcement shipping and aircraft against the effects of nuclear electromagnetic pulses.

Mr. David Mitchell

There are no specific plans to combat the effects of electromagnetic pulse on communications or other electrical equipment in ships and aircraft which may be required for reinforcement purposes. But advice on the phenomenon has been promulgated by the Ministry of Defence to shipowners and by the Civil Aviation Authority to airlines.
