§ Mr. Dubsasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many telephone calls were made in each month to the immigration inquiry bureau in the last 12 months for which figures are available.
§ Mr. WaddingtonDuring the period July 1983 to June 1984 a total of 225,099 telephone enquiries were dealt with by the immigration telephone inquiry bureau (01–686 0688). The monthly figures are as follows:

In addition 147,295 calls made during hours when the Bureau was open received the engaged tone.
§ Mr. Dubsasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he has received about telephone callers not being able to get through to the immigration inquiry bureau.
§ Mr. WaddingtonIn the last year my right hon. and learned Friend has received no representations from hon. Members specifically about difficulty in getting through316W to the immigration telephone inquiry bureau. In the same period one written complaint was received from a member of the public. No record is, however, kept centrally of such complaints made orally, or of those which are considered to be secondary to representations on individual cases.
