HC Deb 01 August 1984 vol 65 c350W
Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many staff have been employed by his Department in each of the last five years for which figures are available.

Mr. Younger

[pursuant to his reply, 11 July 1984]: As the State hospital ceased to be part of the Scottish Office on 31 March 1984, the following figures exclude staff there:

1 April to 31 March
1981–82 400
1982–83 425
1983–84 495

In the Scottish prison service, which is accounted for separately, total recruitment over the same three years was 288.
