HC Deb 01 August 1984 vol 65 cc295-6W
Sir David Price

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what are the latest figures for the number of miners currently at work, on strike and absent for other reasons, respectively.

Mr. Giles Shaw

I understand from the National Coal Board that, on 18 July, the last day before the current spate of holidays, 66,736 employees were working in the industry. It is not possible to distinguish the number of men on strike from those prevented from working or absent for other reasons.
