HC Deb 01 August 1984 vol 65 c295W
Mr. Kirkwood

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will estimate the cost to the National Coal Board of the miners' strike.

Mr. Giles Shaw

The board's accounts for 1983–84, published last week, stated that the strike and overtime ban had cost £197 million to the end of March. The total cost will depend on how long the strike lasts.
