HC Deb 30 April 1984 vol 59 c5W
Mr. David Young

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what has been the total cost to date of the police operation at the Libyan people's bureau.

Mr. Hurd

I understand from the commissioner that it is too soon to say.

Mr. David Young

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department when the first indication was received by Her Majesty's Government that it was possible that the Government in Libya were issuing directions to their bureau in London about the recent demonstration.

Mr. Brittan

It is not the practice to comment in detail on intelligence matters. But, as I informed the House on 25 April, at column 747, no specific information was in our hands before the incident in St. James's Square on 17 April which would have led us to believe that such an incident would occur when it did.
