HC Deb 27 April 1984 vol 58 cc631-2W
Mr. Murphy

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement of policy following the Lisbon declaration at the Council of Europe conference on North/South: Europe's Role.

Mr. Rifkind

The Lisbon conference has made a useful contribution to the debate on the relationship between the developed and developing countries. Europe undoubtedly has an important role to play in working with all other countries to find solutions to the problems faced by many developing countries. We welcome the spirit of the Lisbon declaration but cannot agree with all of its analysis or proposals. We shall continue to study it.
