HC Deb 25 April 1984 vol 58 cc558-9W
Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what are the set criteria employed by the specialist claims control unit to select cases for examination.

Dr. Boyson

On average nearly 50 per cent. of the cases examined by specialist claims control teams are referred to them by the local office as a result of some suspicion and thus are not selected by the team. Other cases are selected by the SCC team themselves on the basis of set criteria which have been drawn up to identify those cases where experience has shown there is a high risk of fraud.
