§ Mr. Nellistasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will provide a table showing the total number of people, from 1974 to the latest available date, detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Acts, detailing (a) the total detentions at ports, airports and elsewhere, (b) the number of exclusion orders made against people so detained, (c) the number of people so detained who were subsequently charged with an offence under the Acts, (d) the number of people so detained who were subsequently charged with an offence not covered by the Acts and (e)the number of people not charged with an offence or excluded; and if he will break down (f) to show the nature of the offence with which people were subsequently charged.
§ Mr. BrittanThe information available relates to persons detained under the Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Acts 1974 and 1976 and covers the period 29 November 1974 to 31 December 1983; it was published in Home Office statistical bulletin No. 2/84, a copy of which has been placed in the Library of the House. Information relating to that part of the first quarter of 1984 covered by these Acts will be published shortly.
