HC Deb 25 April 1984 vol 58 c479W
Mr. Ryder

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will list measures to encourage competition being considered by his Department.

Mr. Brittan

In addition to the continued application of competitive pressures in the supply of the wide range of goods and services required by my Department I shall consider, when I have the report of the committee of inquiry into the Shops Act, the appropriateness of changes in the law which may open the way to more competition. The Cable and Broadcasting Bill now before the House will create the opportunity for more competition in the provision of television programmes.
