HC Deb 25 April 1984 vol 58 cc515-6W
Mr. Silvester

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what statutes, statutory instruments and administrative agreements will need to be amended in respect of Manchester international airport in consequence of Her Majesty's Government's policy of abolishing the metropolitan councils.

Mr. David Mitchell

As stated in our White Paper "Streamlining the Cities" (Cmnd. 9063) the Government's proposed Reorganisation of Local Government Bill will contain the powers necessary to transfer the interests of metropolitan county councils in airports—including the interest of the Greater Manchester council in Manchester international airport—to the joint boards which are to act as passenger transport authorities. It is expected that only minor amendments will be necessary to existing provisions on airports.
