HC Deb 11 April 1984 vol 58 c214W
Mr. Madden

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many persons aged 18 to 25 years have entered the United Kingdom for settlement in the past five years; and if he will give the number of persons aged 18 to 25 years whose conditions of stay on their immigration status have been removed in the past five years.

Mr. Waddington

It is estimated that about 9,000 persons then aged 18 to 25 were accepted for settlement on arrival in the United Kingdom in 1979; corresponding information for more recent years could be provided only at disproportionate cost. The information available on those aged 18 to 25 who were accepted for settlement on removal of time limit is given in the following table; corresponding information is not available for earlier years or for EC nationals.

Non-EC nationals aged 18 to 25 accepted for settlement in the United Kingdom on removal of time limit
Number of persons
1981 8,300
1982 8,200
