HC Deb 11 April 1984 vol 58 c214W
Mr. Hordern

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many men between the ages of 18 to 25 years whose sentences were for two years or less are held in prison.

Mr. Hurd

It is estimated that about 12,600 males aged 18 to 25 years in prison department establishments in England and Wales on 29 February 1984 were serving sentences of two years or less. This total includes those sentenced to youth custody, given a detention centre order, or committed in default of payment of a fine.
