§ Mr. Alfred Morrisasked the Secretary of State for Transport (1) whether he has made any estimate of the effect on the number of staff employed by British Airways at Manchester international airport following the review of routes by the Civil Aviation Authority;
(2) if he has made any estimate of the effect on the profitability of Manchester international airport following the review of routes by the Civil Aviation Authority;
(3) if he has made any estimate of the financial consequences for British Airways of the review by the Civil Aviation Authority of airline routes;
(4) if he will make a statement on the review by the Civil Aviation Authority of airline routes and its implications for the operations of British Airways at Manchester international airport;
(5) if he will seek to obtain and place in the Library a copy of the public statement on 5 April by the group director, economic regulation, of the Civil Aviation Authority about the privatisation of British Airways and the Civil Aviation Authority's routes review; and if he will make a statement on the substance of the comments made.
§ Mr. David MitchellIt would be improper of me to make any statement on the likely outcome of the review before the authority has made any recommendations to me or proposals for amending its own policies on air transport licensing. As to the statement by the group director, economic regulation, the right hon. Gentleman might wish to write to the chairman of the authority.
§ Mr. Alfred Morrisasked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will set out in the Official Report details known to him of the scale of investment by British Airways at and associated with Manchester international airport in respect of aircraft, ground equipment, computer equipment, property, catering expenditure, payments to the authority and fuel uplift.
