HC Deb 10 April 1984 vol 58 c194W
Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will give details of the average waiting time for (a) inpatients and (b) outpatients in each of the district health authorities within Wales.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

The most recently available information on the length of time individual patients have waited for admission to hospital is taken from an analysis based on patients admitted from the waiting list and discharged during 1983. The figures are as follows:

District Health Authority Average number of days waiting for inpatient admission
Clwyd 113
East Dyfed 74
Pembrokeshire 130
Gwent 130
Gwynedd 65
Mid Glamorgan 137
Powys 50
South Glamorgan 91
West Glamorgan 105

These figures do not reflect accurately the average waiting time for all inpatient admissions. They give no indication of the wide variation in waiting times for individual patients since this depends on the clinical judgment of the consultant in each case.

Comparable figures for outpatients are not available.
