HC Deb 05 April 1984 vol 57 cc618-9W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Prime Minister if she will publish in the Official Report the total length of mileage of roads of various categories in England, Scotland and Wales, and the total amount of EEC grants (not loans) received towards road construction in England, Scotland and Wales, together with the average amount of grant per road mile in each separate category for England, Scotland and Wales.

The Prime Minister

The total mileage of roads as at 1 April 1983 was 162,982 for England, 31,257 for Scotland and 20,121 for Wales. The European Community grant relevant to road construction is that from the European regional development fund, receipts from which are recorded in the Appropriations Account for each year.
