HC Deb 04 April 1984 vol 57 c571W
Mr. Foulkes

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what authority has been sought from his Department by Inverclyde district council on behalf of contractors for the dumping of toxic or radioactive waste in tips in Scotland.

Mr. Ancram

Inverclyde district council has not sought authorisation from my right hon. Friend for the disposal of radioactive waste anywhere in Scotland. My right hon. Friend's authority is not needed for the dumping of toxic wastes; under part I of the Control of Pollution Act 1974 such wastes must be disposed of on sites licensed by the waste disposal authorities themselves.
