Mr. Craigen

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if, using information from local authorities' housing checklists and housing plans, he will produce a table showing the number of local authority dwellings in each district at 31 March 1983 which (a) were built pre-1940 of traditional construction and (b) were built post-1939 of traditional construction and which (i) require comprehensive modernisation, (ii) require partial modernisation and (iii) require rewiring only.

The information as reported by authorities for the various categories is given in the table. In relation to the needs of any area, these local authority estimates, along with other data, are very relevant but care is clearly needed in comparing the figures for one area with those for another.
