HC Deb 04 April 1984 vol 57 c554W
30. Mr. Hardy

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many homes were either demolished or ceased to provide for residential accommodation in 1983; and what proportion of the total national housing stock this represents.

Sir George Young

About 24,000 dwellings in England were demolished or otherwise lost from the housing stock in 1983. This is about one in 1,000 of the total dwelling stock.
