HC Deb 24 November 1983 vol 49 cc258-9W
Sir Frederic Bennett

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will introduce legislation to give statutory effect to the guidelines recently issued by the Attorney-General on expenditure by student unions for political purposes; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Brooke

I refer to the reply I gave my hon. Friend on 1 November,—[Vol. 47, c. 317.] The guidance issued by my right hon. and learned Friend indicates the limitations on student union expenditure under existing common law relating to charities. The Government have no present plans to introduce legislation relating to student union expenditure.
