§ Mr. Michael Forsythasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will list the statutory powers under which he is authorised to make payments of any kind to non-Government bodies, including individuals, the total amount paid under each statutory power in 1982–83 and the number of staff involved in making such payments.
§ Mr. WhitneyThe authority for payments by the diplomatic wing of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office rests on the annual Appropriation Act. The authority for the Overseas Development Administration expenditure is section 1 of the Overseas Development and Co-operation Act 1980, section 10 of the Commonwealth Development Corporation Act 1978, and section 20 of the Crown Agents Act 1979. No payments were made under the Crown Agents Act in 1982–83.
