HL Deb 12 May 1983 vol 442 c704WA
Lord Hawke

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, while memories are fresh of the disastrous weather of the latest May Day Holiday, they will consider moving it to another day in the future or adding it to the Spring Bank Holiday.

The Minister of State, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Earl Ferrers)

The Government carried out a public consultation last year about the desirability of moving this holiday. A substantial body of opinion, particularly in industry and commerce, had doubts about the practical advantages of a move. Accordingly the Government decided not to change the present arrangements.
