HC Deb 12 May 1983 vol 42 c372W
Mr. Stanbrook

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis on the circumstances of the demonstration by supporters of the Provisional Irish Republican Army in London on Saturday 7 May.

Mr. Mayhew

We understand from the Commissioner that on the afternoon of Saturday 7 May approximately 1,200 supporters of the "Britain Out of Ireland Movement" marched from Hyde park via Whitehall to Jubilee gardens, where several speakers addressed the crowd. Five arrests were made for minor offences by protesters, but there were no reports of violent behaviour or damage to property.
