§ Mr. Cookasked the Secretary of State for Energy for what purpose British Nuclear Fuels Ltd. has recently fenced in additional land at its Chapelcross site and applied for a new site licence from the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate.
§ Mr. John MooreThe recent fencing of land already in BNFL ownership at Chapelcross was for managerial purposes related to security and the organisation of the site; in particular, the opportunity has been taken to bring part of an effluent discharge pipeline within the fenced area. It is not connected with the site licence. The issue of a new site licence followed a review initiated by the Health and Safety Executive into inspection and control arrangements which is part of normal NII procedure for the updating of licences.
