HC Deb 12 May 1983 vol 42 c377W
Mr. Cook

asked the Secretary of State for Energy for what purpose British Nuclear Fuels Ltd. has recently fenced in additional land at its Chapelcross site and applied for a new site licence from the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate.

Mr. John Moore

The recent fencing of land already in BNFL ownership at Chapelcross was for managerial purposes related to security and the organisation of the site; in particular, the opportunity has been taken to bring part of an effluent discharge pipeline within the fenced area. It is not connected with the site licence. The issue of a new site licence followed a review initiated by the Health and Safety Executive into inspection and control arrangements which is part of normal NII procedure for the updating of licences.
