§ Mr. Adleyasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on negotiations between Her Majesty's Government and the Government of Brunei.
§ Mr. RifkindMy right hon. and noble Friend the Minister of State visited Brunei from 14 to 17 April to discuss with the Sultan the detailed arrangements for defence co-operation between Her Majesty's Government and the Government of Brunei after Brunei resumes full international responsibility as a sovereign and independent state at the end of this year. Although substantial progress was made it was not possible to resolve all the outstanding issues in the time available and the talks were adjourned. Contact is being maintained through the diplomatic channel.
