HC Deb 10 March 1983 vol 38 c456W
Mr. Knox

asked the Minister for Trade, pursuant to his answer to the hon. Member for Leek, Official Report, 24 January, c. 263–64, if he will arrange for a fair sample of business insolvencies to be analysed by reference to the circumstances of the insolvency.

Dr. Vaughan

It would not be possible to obtain information on the circumstances of insolvency from existing records. It would be costly to make special arrangements to obtain the information because each case would need to be considered by the relevant liquidator or official receiver. In any case, it is possible that they would often be uncertain of the primary cause of insolvency.
