HC Deb 21 February 1983 vol 37 cc309-10W
Mr. Greenway

asked the Minister for Trade what information he has as to the number of garages which sell petrol by the litre only against those selling only by the gallon; and if he will make a statement.

Dr. Vaughan

Industry estimates suggest that one-third of retail outlets sell petrol by the litre and account for 60–65 per cent. of volume sales. The voluntary changeover has been slower than the industry expected; this may be due to petrol prices remaining at a level which enables many pumps to continue in use without modification.
