Mr. Rooker

asked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will update the information in his answer to the hon. Member for Birmingham, Perry Barr of 9 February, Official Report, c. 271–74, in respect of output, import penetration and employment for those standard industrial classification groupings that correspond as closely as possible to the coverage of the sector working parties.

[pursuant to his reply, 24 January, 1983, c. 330]: The information in the following table, is the latest available. It relates to the standard industrial classification—1968—grouping that corresponds as closely as possible to the coverage of the sector working parties.

The telecommunications and electronic computers sector working parties—SWPs—referred to in previous answers have been incorporated into a new information technology SWP.

These MLHs have therefore been omitted from measure ≑ for the groups 'Food and drink' and 'Cotton spinning and weaving, made up textiles and textile finishing' respectively.
