§ Mr. Campbell-Savoursasked the Secretary of State for Industry (1) how many steering location inquiries were received in the north-west region of his Department; and of these how many were referred to the Cumbria county council's industrial development unit during the last month for which statistics are available;
(2) how many applications for information of an industrial or service development nature his Department has received in the north-west region during the last month; and how many of these his Department has referred to the Cumbria county council's industrial development unit.
§ Mr. MacGregor[pursuant to his reply, 2 February 1983, c. 111]: In January 1983 the north-west regional office received 562 inquiries of an industrial or service development nature, of which 435 related to Government financial assistance and 26 of which were locational inquiries.
Three of these inquiries were referred to the Cumbria county council's industrial development unit. The northwest regional office maintains close contact with its officers, who in turn refer inquiries to the Department and regularly advise on the availability of industrial sites in the county.
The small firms service in the north-west region received some 2,996 inquiries in January 1983, many of which would have been concerned with information of an industrial or service development nature. Information on whether any of the inquiries were referred to the Cumbria county council's industrial development unit is not recorded.
