HC Deb 04 February 1983 vol 36 cc212-3W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will set up, as part of his reorganisation of traffic areas currently being undertaken by his Department, a traffic area sub-office at Bangor to serve the north Wales area.

Mr. David Howell

No. I am satisfied with the present arrangements for providing a service to north Wales. The network of eleven main traffic area offices is not meant to provide a generally accessible over-the-counter service, and almost all dealings with traffic area offices can be conducted by post or telephone. The north-western traffic commissioners hold public sittings in Colwyn Bay when necessary, and local services are provided by my Department's driving, vehicle and traffic examiners based in North Wales.
