HL Deb 21 December 1983 vol 446 c822WA
Baroness Sharples

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the gap between the street price of heroin, cocaine, cannabis and LSD has narrowed since 1982.

Lord Elton

Because of the illicit nature of the traffic, there are no open market prices for the drugs in question. Street prices are subject to many variable factors, and illicit drug transactions will take place at whatever price the buyer is prepared to pay on any particular occasion. So far as we can establish, there appears to have been little fluctuation since 1982 in the average prices of drugs dealt in at street level although there was a considerable fall in the street price of heroin in the years immediately preceding.
