Mr. John David Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is the total number of United Kingdom staff at (a) the United Kingdom representation to the European Economic Community, (b) the United Kingdom representation to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and (c) the United Kingdom embassy in Brussels.

The number of United Kingdom-based staff paid for by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office at the missions in question is as follows

  1. (a) United Kingdom representation to the European Economic Community — 75
  2. (b) United Kingdom representation to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation — 41
  3. (c) British embassy in Brussels — 36

These totals exclude staff paid for by other Government Departments.
