asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many people were receiving supplementary benefit at the Walthamstow office in May 1979 and the latest available date, respectively; and what has been the percentage change between the two dates.

The total number of supplementary benefit cases in action at Walthamstow local office increased by 47 per cent. from 8.9 to 13.1 thousand cases between May 1979 and August 1983, the latest available date.
