§ Mr. Clayasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will now include mobility allowance in those benefits which are compensated for price increases.
§ Mr. NewtonMy right hon. Friend is required by law to review the rate of mobility allowance in each tax year in the light of the national economic situation and other relevant factors and to lay a statement before Parliament 49W setting out his conclusions and the reasons for them. We have no plans to alter this provision. Since July 1978 mobility allowance has been increased by 90 per cent. compared with the movement in the Retail Prices Index up to this October of 72 per cent.
