HC Deb 13 December 1983 vol 50 c397W
Mr. Chris Smith

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will list the responsibilities, within the Treasury, of the Treasury Solicitor.

Mr. Moore

The Treasury Solicitor's Department does not form part of the Treasury but is a separate Department for which the Attorney-General answers in the House.

The main functions of the Treasury Solicitor for the Treasury are, in England and Wales, the provision of legal advice, the conduct of civil litigation and the provision of a conveyancing service. He also collects bona vacantia on behalf of the Crown. The Treasury has a power to direct the disposal of property forming bona vacantia subject to certain statutory rules.
