HC Deb 13 December 1983 vol 50 c397W
Mr. Andrew F. Bennett

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the cost of the Government's advertising campaign to sell their shares in Cable and Wireless.

Mr. Moore

I estimate that advertising costs incurred to date in connection with the offer for sale of Cable and Wireless shares on 2 December will not exceed £790,000 plus VAT of about £90,000. In addition, there may be some modest further expense in due course to remind purchasers when the balance of purchase price of the shares is due. These and other costs of the sale will be met from the Contingencies Fund, as I announced on 27 October, in advance of approval of a spring Supplementary Estimate.
