HC Deb 13 December 1983 vol 50 c404W
Mr. Spearing

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will take steps to ensure that current negotiations between Greater London council and contractors relating to long-term investment and facilities for the transport of refuse on the river Thames are not prejudiced by the projected legislation on London regional transport.

Mr. Waldegrave

It would not be appropriate for my right hon. Friend to intervene in negotiations between a local authority and private contractors. In our White Paper, "Streamlining the Cities" (Cmnd. 9063), we have, however, made clear the importance of ensuring that satisfactory arrangements — including provision for appropriate new investment — are maintained for the disposal of waste.
