HC Deb 13 December 1983 vol 50 c425W
29. Mr. Sean Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will change the formula for the uprating of child dependency additions to national insurance benefit so that it does not cause a reduction in the rate of the child dependency additions paid with longterm benefits such as widowed mother's allowance.

Mr. Newton

The reduction in long-term child dependency additions occurred this year because child benefit was increased by significantly more than the uprating percentage for beneifts generally. We have no proposals for changing the formula.
