HC Deb 07 December 1983 vol 50 c173W
26. Mr. Tom Clarke

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the relations between the United Kingdom and Uganda.

Sir Geoffrey Howe

We have good relations with Uganda, and attach importance to them. The hon. Otema Allimadi, the Ugandan Prime Minister, who is here on an official visit, had discussions with me this morning, in the course of which I raised with him the proposed implementation of the Expropriated Properties Act and the problems faced by displaced persons in Uganda.

On other matters, our bilateral aid programme to Uganda for the year 1983–84 is £6 million, divided between a number of projects designed to help the Uganda Government in their difficult task of economic reconstruction. We also contribute substantially to the Commonwealth military training team in Uganda.
