§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will publish in theOfficial Reportdetails of the contributions to and benefits accruing from the police pension schemes; and how these compare with other schemes of others in public employment, including the civil servants.
§ Mr. MayhewSince 1 September 1982 policemen have contributed 11 per cent. and policewomen 8 per cent., of their pensionable pay towards the cost of pension benefits broadly comparable to those in other public service pension schemes. The police pension scheme differs from most others in providing, on account of the nature of police duties, for retirement at an earlier age. This affects the cost of the scheme and the contribution rates, which are higher than those paid by most other public servants.
