HC Deb 28 October 1982 vol 29 cc531-2W
Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many co-ownership houses have been sold by housing associations in Scotland; if he will give the figures, with and without discount, in each housing authority area; how many co-ownership houses have been sold by each housing association; and if' he w ill list the areas concerned.

Mr. Allan Stewart

I shall write to my hon. Friend.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether inquiries are being made to ascertain how mar y of those living in the 19,500 fair rent houses in Scotland owned by housing associations wish to purchase the houses concerned.

Mr. Allan Stewart

Tenants of housing associations in Scotland do not have a right to buy their homes, but housing associations have the power to sell. No figures are available centrally on the number of tenants who wish to buy but have not done so. Through the Housing Corporation I have indicated to all housing associations that they should adopt a positive sales approach, and I shall continue to encourage associations to make the opportunity available in all appropriate cases.
