§ Lord Houghton of Sowerbyasked Her Majesty's Government:
Whether they are aware that 52,000 parking tickets were cancelled in London on the grounds of diplomatic immunity in the period April 1980 to March 1981, and that the highest numbers were Nigeria, Egypt, France and Saudi Arabia, and what representations have been made to the governments concerned about the widespread flouting of our traffic laws.
§ Lord BelsteadYes. During the latter part of 1981 the Foreign and Commonwealth Office wrote to all Heads of Mission expressing its concern about the large number of parking offences committed by diplomats. We shall continue to apply pressure on Heads of Mission to try to reduce the number of parking offences committed by their staff and we are looking at new ways of encouraging them to do so.
