HL Deb 30 November 1982 vol 436 c1232WA
Lord Chitnis

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, in view of the protests by Church and political representatives in the area, they will give an assurance that the Commonwealth Development Corporation will not be permitted to finance the NDC-Guthrie plantation project in Agusan del Sur in the Philippines until community representatives confirm that land sales to NDC-Guthrie are not the result of intimidation.

Lord Belstead

My right honourable friend the Minister for Overseas Development proposes to hold an early meeting with representatives of the British Council of Churches and other bodies which have made representations to him before a final decision is taken on the proposed investment by the Commonwealth Development Corporation.
