HC Deb 29 November 1982 vol 33 c21W
20. Mr. Greenway

asked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will make a further statement on the Post Office's quality of service targets and performance objectives.

Mr. Butcher

There is little I can add to the earlier statement given by my right hon. Friend on 25 February this year in reply to the written parliamentary question put down by my hon. Friend the Member for Preston, North (Mr. Atkins). That statement referred to a new performance objective agreed with the Post Office for a period of three years commencing in the current financial year, and the acceptance that the Post Office's current quality of service targets for mail delivery were as demanding as could reasonably be expected. Although Post Office quality of service performance is still below those targets, it remains the commitment of the Post Office Board to achieve them and I am pressing it to do so.
