§ Mr. Bulmerasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he has made any estimate of the saving that might accrue if all employees in the public sector were to be paid by credit transfer.
§ Mr. HayhoeNo. However, estimates have been made of the savings that might accrue. If the 9,000 monthly-paid and 40,000 weekly-paid non-industrial civil servants who are still paid in cash, together with some 80,000 weekly-paid other than in cash, were persuaded to be paid monthly by credit transfer, this would amount to a total saving of about £8 million a year.
