Sir Anthony Meyer

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what sums have been paid to the United Kingdom by the European Community in each year since the United Kingdom's accession in respect of (a) disaster aid or (b) severe weather compensation.

Mr. Ridley

The United Kingdom received £944,889 for flood relief in England and Scotland in 1978; £325,000 for severe weather compensation in the Orkney, Shetland and Western Isles area in 1979; and £699,065 for severe weather compensation in England, Scotland and Wales in 1982.

I regret that information on payments made before 1976 is not available.
