HC Deb 02 March 1982 vol 19 c98W
29. Mr. Jim Marshall

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he intends to introduce further measures to assist the long-term unemployed.

Mr. Alison

The Government are already giving special help to long-term unemployed people through the community enterprise programme, the expansion of which my right hon. Friend announced before Christmas. We keep this and our other special employment and training measures under review. The main way, however, in which we can help unemployed people, including the long-term unemployed, is by tackling this country's fundamental economic problems and providing an environment in which more permanent jobs can be created.
