HC Deb 02 March 1982 vol 19 c98W
26. Mr. McQuarrie

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will introduce proposals to secure the employment of persons over 50 years of age who are made redundant and are unable to obtain alternative employment.

Mr. Alison

The only real way to secure employment for older workers, as for others, is to restore competitiveness so that more jobs will be created as Britain moves out of the recession. Meanwhile the Government have made it easier for those nearing retirement age who wish to retire early to do so.
