§ Mr. Greenwayasked the Secretary of State for Transport whether, in view of the likely disturbance to people in the residential areas affected by his alternative eastbound route for lorries with a gross weight over 32 5 tonnes on the A40, he will propose an alternative replacement route or take steps to publicise the extent of compensation available to the households concerned, supplementing such compensation by ex gratia payments if necessary.
§ Mrs. Chalker[pursuant to her reply, 28 May 1982, c. 449]: As the publicised alternative route has long been used for loads of unusual weight and size it is considered to be the most appropriate. There are no provisions for the payment of compensation to property owners in these circumstances.
