asked the Secretary of State for Industry what information he has as to how many manufacturers of vehicle components there are in the United Kingdom.

No official statistics are available. A recent report by the Monopolies and Mergers Commission suggested however that there are about 300 main manufacturers of vehicle components in the United Kingdom backed up by a larger number of smaller firms, amounting to some 2,000 in all.
